Each day I try to contemplate one thing of beauty. It can come from anywhere; the color of the sky at sunset, a tree observed on the way to work, a view of the lake or less likely places such as the sound of the train in the distance as heard from my office. When I say contemplate I mean really consider it from every angle. I let my mind wander around it, try to see it and think about it from various vantage points – I’ll write some examples of this in coming installments. I try to reflect on it later in the day and even try to incorporate it into my work if I can.
I drove to chicago and back today and I was noticing something that only really occurs this time of year, something I kind of watch for. Just before the leaves begin to turn their yellow or crimson, they dry up enough so that their underside shows instead of the top. When the sun hits these trees, especially birch trees, the whole tree seems to shimmer a silver color.
